Our staff members are the heart of Sheltering Arms. They uncompromisingly fight for equal rights and opportunity so the children and families we serve can succeed. This month, we are excited to recognize not one, but three of our staff members who are being recognized for major awards! Join us in congratulating Samantha Curtin, Esther Lok, and Joselyn Urena.
Social Worker Samantha is a winner of the inaugural “Front Line Heroes” award from New York Nonprofit Media. She works on our Foster Care team and is the lead coordinator for Solution Based Casework, a nationally-recognized model for supporting children and families. Samantha is relentlessly creative and a fierce advocate for both her peers and the clients she serves.
Esther is receiving an award from the Commission on the Public’s Health System. She will be recognized for her leadership in advancing Access Health NYC, a public health advocacy campaign. Access Health NYC plays a major role in ensuring New Yorkers are educated about health care and coverage. Esther will be honored on May 11th alongside other noteworthy leaders in New York’s health care reform arena.
Joselyn is receiving the inaugural “Bronx Cares Award” from the Council of Family and Child Caring Agencies and the Bronx Borough President’s Office. This award recognizes Joselyn’s work in our Foster Care team as a passionate teacher and leader. Joselyn is known as a role model and a never-say-never advocate for the families she serves.
Every day, our staff help New Yorkers to defy the odds. They are willing to work in the shadows so the children and families they serve can receive the spotlight they deserve. Today, we hope you will join us in highlighting and celebrating the work of Samantha, Esther, and Joselyn – three of our city’s finest leaders!
